The controversy is served: they use the photo of a woman breastfeeding in a fancy restaurant as an advertising claim

I assure you that in recent days I was more animated when it came to breastfeeding in public because it had the feeling that we were getting better, that society was beginning to normalize it and that women were having less and less problems to give the breast to their babies wherever they require it.

However, I have seen again criticisms about it, some quite vehement, oriented towards this photo in which a woman breastfeeds twins in a fancy restaurant which is not a real photo, but the advertising of Equinox, a chain of high standing gyms.

The story behind the photo

This image, titled "Table for one, food for three," is part of a campaign called "Commit to Something" (Committed to Something) and share space with other photos that seek to generate controversy based on situations of high commitment by the actors: a woman surrounded by lots of cats, an athlete with dozens of trophies, an activist at the door of a public building, etc. That is, a way to show that they are adapting to modern times and that they support those people who commit to something, who fight for something, who leave the pile and differ based on their wishes and convictions.

The photo model is Lydia Hearst and she is not yet a mother, although despite this she has managed to capture the essence that the photographer intended to print. Steven Klein, as we read in El Mundo, sought not only to get customers, generate controversy and talk about Equinox, but defend the progress and individual freedom of each person in today's society: "The campaign shows a powerful approach, which tells the reality of modern society". That's why Hearst breastfeeds his twins with an arrogant gesture, of "I know what I am doing and will continue to do so despite whoever weighs you".

However, criticism has not taken long to appear

True, the photo shows what could be considered the most extreme case of breastfeeding in public and that is why I can understand (not to justify or support) that people are screaming in the sky. If with a normal and ordinary photo of an ordinary woman, breastfeeding in a normal and ordinary street, people are already upset, imagine if the situation is taken to the extreme: it is not a baby, but two, it is not in the street, but in a fancy restaurant, is not breastfeeding covering it, but is with both breasts in the air and does not have an expression of "I'm sorry, but they were hungry", but, as I said, of "poor who comes to tell me something. "

Well, what could have been expected happened, that on Equinox's Facebook hundreds of people have praised the image and have been happy with it, grateful to discuss the issue of breastfeeding openly or even feel identified with the image, but hundreds of people have shown extreme rejection towards what it represents.

There you can read people who consider it a horrible and ridiculous ad to be a gym, without understanding the objective, people who call it unpleasant and embarrassing and others who complain that they do not see a mother breastfeed but a Model showing the tits with two mouths of baby covering the nipples, also suggesting that next time they put a mother giving the bottle, which is also considered a taboo.

What do you think?

Now, as always, it's your turn to give us your opinion. Mine is that I love the photo. I love it for everything that it conveys, which I have already commented, although the situation seems rare: except in large celebrations or weddings, it must be difficult to find a woman in a fancy restaurant breastfeeding two babies that way. But precisely because it is strange and extreme, I like it.

If she can do it, anyone should be able to do it also in any other circumstance and place, which is, in fact, how it should be: that every baby can receive their food wherever he is.
