Ectopic pregnancy can be overlooked in almost half of the cases.

It's fundamental detect ectopic pregnancies as soon as possible, that is, the gestations that occur outside the uterus sometimes due to risk factors and other times without explanation, which logically do not progress.

If they are not detected in time, they can cause serious consequences for the mother's health, compromise her ability to have children in the future since only one third of women with ectopic pregnancy have subsequent live births, and even put their own lives at risk .

In the May issue of the Journal of Family Practice there is a clinical review entitled "Ectopic pregnancy: forget the classic presentation if you want to find out early", which although it is a report for doctors, helps us to know a little more about this complication and its symptoms .

According to doctors, despite the advanced detection methods that exist today, ectopic pregnancy can be overlooked in 40% to 50% of patients at an initial consultation.

The cases in which patients with ectopic pregnancy have abdominal pain and irregular vaginal bleeding are less than half, which in any case may also be the same symptoms typical of other problems during pregnancy and not exclusive to an ectopic pregnancy.

What they do agree is that the unequivocal symptom that occurs in most cases is acute pelvic pain.

If you plan to get pregnant, it is better to make a prior consultation to rule out any risk factor, and just know that you have become pregnant visit the doctor as soon as possible to have an ultrasound and confirm that everything is going well. In these cases, time is health.
