Why does your baby kick inside your belly? A new study explains that these movements have a goal

During pregnancy, we can gradually feel how our tummy grows as our baby develops and grows bigger every day. One of the most incredible sensations of pregnancy is when we feel their first kicks or movements.

But did you know that these movements have a goal, especially during the third quarter? According to a recent study, your baby's kicks would help him develop a map of his own body.

Published in the journal Scientific Reports, this new study shows us that those kicks or movements that we feel of our baby during pregnancy are not only because she is getting comfortable, but because is knowing your body and sending that information to your brain.

According to the Science Daily site, the kicks that pregnant women feel during the third trimester they help the baby create a map of their own body, which would eventually allow them to explore the place around them.

In Babies and more Baby movements inside the belly

To reach this conclusion, the researchers analyzed the brain waves that were produced when newborn babies "kicked" or made movements of this type with their limbs during the REM phase of sleep, finding that rapid brain waves were activated in the corresponding hemisphere.

For example, if a baby moves the right hand, this causes the brain waves to be activated immediately in the left hemisphere of the brain, which is the part responsible for processing the sense of touch of the right hand. These brain waves that were caused by those movements, they disappeared after the babies had been born for a couple of weeks.

In addition, according to the results of this research, the size of these brain waves was much larger in premature babies born 10 weeks earlier than expected, and at that age they should still be in the womb.

The study suggests, then, that the baby's movements or kicks in the womb during the third and last trimester of pregnancy they would help develop areas of the brain corresponding to sensory stimuli, and to make babies more aware of their own body.

With this new study, we check again that those baby kicks inside the belly have a goal, since some time ago we share that they also have the function of strengthening your joints and bones for your life outside the uterus.
