José Mota stars in the new awareness campaign 2.0 against forest fires

A week ago the summer arrived and the suffocating heat of the hand, I am one of the people who like to enjoy the summer season because it offers many possibilities for leisure, relationship and especially rest. However, during my childhood I loved summer storms because the water cools and revitalizes everything, it is so necessary!

But now it doesn't rain much to say, and everything is very dry ... too dry. It scares me to think of the possibility of fires happeningIt makes me uneasy when I hear the sound of helicopters and seaplanes that travel from the coast to the interior to try to extinguish the flames.

You know if forests are burned, biodiversity is destroyed, and it is something we cannot afford. 96 out of every 100 fires are caused by humans, either accidentally or intentionally. One of the pillars of the initiative promoted by WWF is to sensitize citizens about the need to take precautions, avoid the use of fire in the forest and collaborate by denouncing those who, voluntarily or recklessly, cause a fire.

This It is a particularly difficult year due to weather conditions. The fires have hit the territory with great force, even sadly claiming the life of a brigadist who collaborated in the work of extinction in Castrelo do Val (Ourense) last March. José Mota and WWF launched yesterday at a public event, held at the headquarters of the organization, the new awareness campaign 2.0 against forest fires. The actor wanted to support this initiative in a selfless way given his concern towards this serious problem facing our forests. WWF recalls that in the last decade the llamas have traveled more than one million hectares of forest, an area similar to that of an Autonomous Community such as Navarra.

The organization (which works for a living planet) insists that the burning of pastures or stubble without control, the use of machinery in rural areas without precaution, the abandonment of garbage, cigarette butts or unauthorized burning They continue to be the main causes of negligence of this threat.

Félix Romero, Head of the WWF Forest Program, notes: 'In recent years, Spanish society as a whole has managed to reduce the impact of fires. However, we cannot lower our guard, we must forcefully reject the uncontrolled use of fire, strengthen the ecological and social role of our forests and build a new, more sustainable economic model with the forest environment. '

On the other hand, the cases of fires originated by accident add to the intentional ones, against which WWF does not consider an increase in penalties necessary, but as strongly as possible in the application of the current law, since it is a crime. The important advances are recognized, both in the role of the environmental prosecutor and in the investigation of causes by agents and the bodies and security forces of the state, while insisting on the importance of increasing efforts in this area. matter.

José Mota underlines the importance of denouncing those responsible for a fire, to prevent those guilty of going unpunished and recalls: “If you see someone causing a fire, report it”. To conclude: "because taking care of our forests, we will win the battle against fires."

To minimize the effect of the Great Forest Fires (GIF) in Spain, it is necessary to act on several fronts: fire prevention, forest management, preventive restoration of degraded areas and value in the Spanish economy of products and services that offer the mount

The message of the campaign is oriented to its dissemination through the media and the social networks on the Internet, since they can become allies in the fight against fire. It's shocking to know that so far this year more than 50,000 hectares of forest have been grassland, almost double the average of the last ten years. These types of figures are what should make us shake off indifference and call the emergency service when we see a fire or watch someone causing it.
