15-month-old child expelled from the nursery for biting other children

A fifteen month old boy was expelled yesterday from the municipal nursery of Benejúzar, in Alicante, for a week, for bite peers.

The mother, indignant at the measure taken by the nursery has decided to report the center to the Local Police and the Civil Guard, since according to the mother herself, the expulsion for “disciplinary reasons” is approved by the Department of Education.

In the complaints filed, which the woman has made public, she explains that, among other things, expulsion is a problem for her and her family because while everyone is working, nobody can take care of the child in the morning. He also explains that he came to speak with the Councilor for Education, Francisco Lorenzo, who told him that they were not going to back down, because the solution of leaving the child at home for a week was designed to "See if this way you take the habit of biting", phrase that I would define as the most unfortunate of the week.

Let's see if the mania is removed

I stop to comment on the phrase because it has to make a point (right now I'm laughing alone ... imagine me at the keyboard with the laugh of "can not be"). The mother said that expelling the child was not the solution and certainly it is not, and less if it is done with the intention of the child learning that he does not have to bite.

Fifteen months is not fifteen years. Fifteen months is one year and three months, age at which a child has no idea if he spends five days at home or if he spends them in daycare. Age at which a child does not understand that on weekends you do not have to go to daycare or understand that on business days you must go to daycare. Age at which, if five days should serve to learn not to bite, Saturday and Sunday should serve to learn not to do something too, perhaps not as serious as biting. Absurd.

But this does not end here. The mother has also complained that she has been offered to see the child by the municipal psychology services. For her, nor is expelling it the solution, nor taking it to the psychologist is neitherbecause he is a one year old boy who "He does not understand what he does or what he is told".

The version of the Councilor for Education

The Councilor for Education, meanwhile, has explained the version of the facts. He says the solution has been taken by consensus with the director of the children's center, after she asked for help.

Apparently the child has already bitten "serious" Y "Up to three times" to several partners. The parents of those affected complained, logically, and the board chose to contact the councilor. Between the two they decided that it was best to stay at home this week, "Since I was more nervous about something". What do I say that they could have talked to the mother to see if there was any reason for the child to decide to solve everything in morsels, especially knowing that there had never been problems with him.

“It's a matter of safety and worrying about the integrity of the little ones; I don't understand how the situation has been magnified so much ”, adds the mayor. Well, it is magnified because it is clear that there is a problem with a child who is interacting poorly with his peers. A solution is necessary, I do not deny that, but I doubt that the solution comes through a five-day expulsion.

Probably the child will have to be taught to interact with his classmates in another way and the safest thing is that it is not something taught in ten minutes, not even in ten days, but in more time, because we all know, parents and educators, that educating a child is not an easy task. Well, I said educators, but apparently there are educators and even education councilors who don't have this so clear.
