The WWF Solar boat will sail along the Spanish coast to discover our marine paradises

In 2007, the Sun21, promoted by the Swiss association Transatlantic21, left Basel and after a stopover in the Canary Islands, began its transatlantic adventure across the ocean to the Caribbean island of Martinique. Afterwards, the ship arrived in numerous ports until it was successfully completed in New York. 7,000 nautical miles and five months later.

Transatlantic21 subsequently ceded the catamaran to WWF Spain to become the emblem of clean energy in Spain and the fight for the protection of our coasts and seabed. This summer, and for the third consecutive year, WWF Solar will sail along the Spanish coast to call attention to its status and convey the idea of the importance of preserving marine paradises.

What is the mission for this year of the WWF solar?

The WWF solar crew will be responsible for disseminating, among the local and visiting population, the natural wealth of marine and coastal ecosystems, its main threats, as well as the different WWF proposals for its protection and conservation.

  • We want to inform the public about the role they can play to change the harmful policies for the environment, and show them the platform 'No at our expense', which sets out the reasons to defend the 'Law of Coasts'.

  • It is also intended raise awareness about the richness of our marine ecosystems, from the coast to the underwater canyons, showing the advantages of conserving them through tools such as Marine Protected Areas, or Marine Reserves.

The modification of the current law of Coasts, could imply that the coastal and marine ecosystems will be the main harmed, and to this the lack of protection of the different marine reserves is added due to the economic cuts and the consequent danger that the current proposal of Marine Areas Protected in Spain I ended up not being carried out

After the two previous campaigns (embark and 'Melbourne') this summer WWF Solar comes to us with 'discover your marine paradises'. He will begin his journey on July 19 in Cartagena, and end the trip on August 26 in Alicante.

I would not think twice, if I were in one of the localities of passage on the dates indicated (here is the information) it would take the children to know a little more the natural values of our coast.

I leave you with a video about Marine Protected Areas
