Children with disabilities are mistreated more

Those who mistreat children are despicable beings, and my horror towards them has increased by recognizing one more sign of their cowardice: Children with disabilities are mistreated more.

That is, the more helpless, dependent and in need of care a child is, the more easily the abusers are taught with him, hiding in his isolation or his inability to communicate what he is suffering.

The children with disabilities suffer acts of violence almost four times as often as those without disabilities, according to a review commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) and published by the medical journal The Lancet.

Sexual violence, moreover, is exercised more frequently against children with psychic disabilities, especially if they cannot be alerted to prevent it or later explain what happened, although, in general, both physical and sexual violence is more frequent against these children.

Helplessness, social stigma, coupled with the lack of integration and lack of knowledge about their disability are determining factors in their vulnerability, which increases in cases of detention in health centers.

To conduct this analysis, studies from many countries have been used and the conclusion has been quite general: Children with disabilities suffer more physical abuse and sexual violence.
