Children who do not like milk

There are not many children who do not like milk, but I could not say that they can be counted on the fingers of one hand, because there are a few mothers who, in the nursing office, answer me, to the question of "How many dairy do you take per day", which there's no way they drink milk because they don't like it.

Some of these children are babies who, after drinking breast milk, have refused to exchange their mother's milk for cow's milk and others are children who, as they have been trying new foods, have left the white bottle in oblivion. , like that food they used to eat at all hours and now have hated. In such cases, most mothers ask: “What do I do? What can I give him if he doesn't like milk?

Milk is not an essential food

If a child does not want to drink milk, several things can be done to try to take substitute foods, but before talking about it it is necessary to explain that milk is not an essential food. I know that milk has always been had on a pedestal, like that food without which we could die, but it only takes logic to realize that you can live perfectly without milk.

The first thing to keep in mind is that there are many people who do not tolerate it and many people who are directly allergic to it. Intolerant people can be more or less moderate or severe, with people who can drink a little and people who really can't drink anything.

Being lactose intolerant or allergic to cow's milk proteins is annoying for children and also for parents, because you always have to walk with a thousand eyes so they don't take what they shouldn't, but not drinking milk will not make their lives in danger or have serious nutritional deficiencies, because there are many other foods that can offer the same as milk.

The second thing to keep in mind is that there are cultures that do not raise cows, either because there is no custom or because the weather does not allow it, and the population's health level is high, despite not drinking milk.

Dairy products also count as milk

If despite what I have said (milk is not essential, as it is not any food), parents prefer that their children drink dairy, there are many alternatives to milk, being the closest and typical ones dairy derivatives such as yogurt and cheese.

Every milliliter of yogurt a child eats is equivalent to one milliliter of milk as recommended. I mean normally 280-500 ml of milk is recommended daily. Well, if a child eats two yogurts a day, he has almost reached the recommendation. If you later eat some cheese, it will be in those 280 ml or more (but, as I said, it is not essential).

In addition, if the question is of flavor, milk from other mammalian animals such as goat and sheep can be offered, or a little flavor with a little sugar, cocoa powder, etc. can be added to cow's milk. (I said a little, that there are children who make cocoa milkshakes every morning).

Other vegetable preparations

They can also be bought in supermarkets vegetable preparations that are called milk, although they are not, of course. Milk emanates from mammalian breasts and vegetables, for now, do not have breasts (nor are they mammals).

The best known preparations are almond milk, oatmeal, rice and soy milk, and only those that are enriched with calcium and other elements that make them resemble cow's milk should be used as substitutes. They have no added sugars.

That way, when someone asks “where is this child going to get calcium from, if he doesn't drink milk,” you can answer that he gets it from the enriched source of plant origin. Anyway, there are many sources of calcium beyond milk and vegetable preparations, so no food is essential.
