The Brave is not Violent in Latin America: for young people to express that they do not accept mistreatment against girls

'Violence against women and girls is prevalent in all societies of the world. He does not understand racial, cultural or wealth frontiers'.

It is an expression of historically and culturally specific values and norms that is still applied through many social and political institutions that foster the submission and discrimination of women and girls

In Latin America, according to ECLAC data, 45% of women say they have received threats from their partners, while the percentage of people who admit that it is acceptable for a husband to beat his wife to discipline them is between 5.9% - 27.5%. To change this, comes the campaign aimed at young people 'The Brave is not Violent'. Because breaking the stereotypes that provoke violence is brave, betting on social change is brave, and take responsibility and say out loud that abuse against women is unacceptable, is also brave.

'The Brave is not Violent' has been created within the framework of the UNNET campaign. Call is made for young people to perform extraordinary and at the same time simple and everyday acts. Unfortunately, violence is too present in the lives of many girls in the world.

In truth, vexatious behaviors against girls are the order of the day (more than we would like) and not only in Latin America. Don't we believe it? Let us be attentive then to how some children from eight years old are related. I warn that this is not a generalization, but neither is it an invention of mine.

The action is presented next Wednesday, July 10, with the claim that young people in the region are part of the solution to end violence against women.

The launch will take place within the framework of a large party organized with the support of the Municipality of Quito (Ecuador) and will take place on July 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the El Recreo Shopping Center. The party will be enlivened by MTV DJ Mauricio Parra who will deliver different gifts and present a contest in which the youth of the region will be asked to submit original and creative proposals to end violence against women and girls . The winning project will be highlighted in a profile of MTV Agents of Change.

The proposals of young people can be specified in graphic or audiovisual productions.
