The Night of the Souls of Soria celebrates in 2013 its twenty-seventh edition

Soria pays another year a tribute to the legend of The mount of the souls by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer considered the best horror story in Spanish literature. The Amigos de las Ánimas Cultural Association and the Soria City Council propose a different way to celebrate the Night of the Dead (November 1 to 2) recalling the legend of El Monte de las Ánimas, the work of the poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836-1870) whose origin and setting is the city of Soria.

It is a long scary night for the whole family that will not miss skeletons, templar monks, bonfires and a loose of paper lamps With the words of the legend. The twenty-seventh edition of the Night of the Souls is celebrated, which will begin with a parade and a night walk where visitors will tour the oldest streets, ruins and monuments of the city of Soria. Then you have to reach the stone bridge where the Monte de las Ánimas is born, guided by lamps and torches and accompanied by skeletons, giant puppets, Templar monks and other ghosts of the night. There will also be live music that will recreate the dreary, cold and mysterious atmosphere typical of this Night of the Dead.

At the foot of the Monte de las Ánimas, next to a large bonfire and with the only light of the night and the torches that have accompanied us, the reading the legend of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer that this year will be in charge of D. Camilo García, a well-known voice actor and voice in Castilian of actors such as Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins or Christopher Lee (Saruman) of the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit."

The legend of Béquer begins like this:

The Night of the Dead woke me up to I don't know what time double the bells. His monotonous and eternal tinting brought to my mind this tradition that I recently heard in Soria

Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer heard it on his journey through Sorian lands and published it in 1862. Since then this story has endured in the city's popular songbook and tells the events that occurred on the night of November 1 to 2 there in the middle of the Middle Ages.

The hill of the souls that sits a few meters from the city of Soria and that borders the Duero was a place of refuge of the Templars during the reconquest and since then they say that when the night of the Dead arrives, the bell of the bell is heard bending alone chapel, and that the souls of the dead, shrouded in shreds of their shrouds, run like in a fantastic hunt between the wedges and the brambles. Deer roar in fear, wolves howl, snakes give horrific whistles. And the next day the footprints of the skeletonized feet of the skeletons have been printed in the snow. That's why in Soria we call it the Mount of Souls, and that's why I wanted to get out of it before the night closes.

The Night of the Moods 2013 or this Night of the Dead Soriana It will have a very special final clasp because it will be built with bonfire embers an igneous mantle of embers that the bravest will pass barefoot. Finally a performance of paper lamps with words from the legend they will launch into the sky that will end with the concert of Lurte folk group. This tourist and literary tribute will continue until the next day, November 2, with a theatricalization, in the ruins of the church of San Nicolás de Soria, of the legend "Rayo de luna", a story that is also part of the collection of Legends of the romantic writer.

I love the city of Soria, it is full of magic, it is beautiful, it has magnificent routes and also eats great. I absolutely recommend this great tour and I hope it will be a total success again. Go very warm because the area demands it.
