Care: little patients, big causes

Today we are talking about a solidarity program that looks at other realities, bringing sick children from other countries to treatment. Cuidam is a program of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu that makes it possible for sick children from any country to have the treatment they need and that its environment cannot offer you.

Cuidam was born in 2004 for this purpose, attending children of pediatric age (up to 18 years) who suffer from a serious illness that in the country of origin can not receive the necessary treatment. In addition, for them to enter the program there must be a treatment for the disease and that it is highly decisive and does not imply a stay in our country for more than three months.

Highly specialized medical-surgical assistance is not always possible in all contexts, and the lives of many children depend on it. The Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona has been characterized by acting in diverse fields with the aim of offering solutions to disadvantaged groups and in social situations where help is indispensable, and proof of this is the Cuidam program.

From the website of the program we can access the history of these children, the "solidarity memories" in different countries of the world, especially African and Latin American, and also the magazine "Cuidamaldía", which offers all kinds of news related to the initiative.

The principles that move Cuidam are the non-discrimination of any application for reasons of race, beliefs or political reasons, the execution of its work with objectivity and rigor but also with sensitivity and humanity and transparency in all the actions carried out and in the funds employees.

The assistance program for sick children from other countries Cuidam It is created with the support of three founding partners that share the values and commitment of social action: the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu itself, the DKV Seguros company, the El Somni dels Nens Foundation and the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation.
